Two ferry companies, two terminals
The Stockholm - Helsinki ferries don't leave from the same quay. Viking Line sails from Stadsgården on the southern shore, Tallink Silja from the Värtan terminal in Värtahamnen in the north-east of the city. Which ferry company runs your departure is shown on your ticket and for every departure in the timetable.

Stadsgården: Viking Line
Stadsgården lies on the southern shore of Saltsjön, between Slussen and Londonviadukten. The quay used to be known as Tegelvikshamnen. The terminal opens at least two hours before departure. Check-in runs from 1.5 hours to 20 minutes before departure.
By car
The vehicle check-in is not at the terminal but at the Fotografiska museum, 700 metres away. Since 1 April 2024 you can no longer turn left when coming from Slussen, so approach from the east, from the Nacka direction, and turn right at Fotografiska. The car park at the terminal is paid and unattended.
By bus, transfer bus and boat
Buses run between the Londonviadukten stop and Slussen metro station. Taxis wait at the terminal. Viking Line also runs a transfer bus between Cityterminalen and the terminal. If you buy your ticket from the driver, you can only pay by card. Another option is the boat Emelie from Masthamnen.
In the terminal
There is left-luggage storage, a lift, an accessible toilet, a small café and vending machines. There is no cash machine, bureau de change or Wi-Fi. At the port, Viking Line only accepts cards. If you need help boarding, let Viking Line know at least 48 hours in advance, then be at the meeting point in the terminal at least one hour before departure.
Värtan terminal: Tallink Silja
Värtahamnen is one of Sweden's largest passenger ports. All Tallink Silja ferries leave from the Värtan terminal. The building is open daily from 05:30 to 17:30, check-in and ticket sales from 05:45 to 17:30. In the terminal you'll find the Kasta Loss Bar & Bistro, lockers payable by card only, and a meeting point for travellers who need assistance.
By bus, shuttle and metro
- SL bus 76: runs Ropsten - Värtahamnens färjeterminal - Nybroplan - Kungsträdgården - Norra Hammarbyhamnen. The stop is right at the terminal.
- Shuttle from Cityterminalen: the Tallink Silja shuttle runs non-stop in about 25 minutes, the Båtbussarna from Cityterminalen (Klarabergsviadukten) in about 20 minutes. On the Båtbussarna you can only pay by card.
- Metro: from Gärdet station on the red line it's about 800 metres, or around 15 minutes on foot, on a signposted path. Ropsten station is also nearby. From bus 1, too, it's a walk of around 15 minutes.
By car and parking
You can park short-term for up to two hours right in front of the terminal. Long-term parking is run by Stockholm Parkering. You pay at the machine or by app; advance booking is not possible. There are four disabled parking spaces in front of the terminal and two more at Valparaiso.
Security at both ports
The port facilities in Stockholm are classed as protected sites. If asked, you must show ID and say what your business is at the port. Luggage and vehicles may be checked, including by X-ray, and body searches are possible. Weapons must be declared to the ferry company in advance. Knives with a blade longer than 6 cm go in checked luggage or must be locked in your vehicle. The port operator's guidance is available from Stockholms Hamnar.

Which terminal does my ferry leave from? +
That depends on the ferry company. Viking Line sails from Stadsgården, Tallink Silja from the Värtan terminal in Värtahamnen. The two terminals are in different parts of the city, so check your ticket beforehand. The timetable shows which ferry company runs which departure.
Why should I approach Viking Line from the east by car? +
Since 1 April 2024 you can no longer turn left into the Viking Line terminal when coming from Slussen. So approach from the east, from the Nacka direction, and turn right at Fotografiska. That's where the vehicle check-in is.
How do I get to the Värtan terminal without a car? +

Can I park at the port? +
